That is the much better film. This version, "white wash" the story line. Lena Horn was passed over for Ava Gardner. If Horn played the part, the film wouldn't have been showen in the south.
That alone, had the film missing the point of what it was trying to make, about the treatment of black people in that time and sadly nothing had changed in the early fifties.Tony Paradisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07605888460389121268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7992599607086278068.post-54547010561840729872013-08-17T02:30:13.480-05:002013-08-17T02:30:13.480-05:00I adore Elinor Dashwood for just the qualities you...I adore Elinor Dashwood for just the qualities you mention, and I have seen Emma Thompson's S&S dozens of times. However, both options hold true in that she is also quite clumsy.

There IS a song about having a gimmick, which is what you need to succeed in burlesque. I almost included it in this post but it is a TERRIBLE song and the singing is worse. Unfortunately, yes, most of the songs are equally ear-grating. Natalie Wood does not have the strongest voice but hers is the least offensive. Rosalind Russel *shakes head*. It's painful.

It's like a giant make-up pouf, right?! Because I somehow ended up watching that on YouTube, and it had the worst singing EVER. Ugh. If the whole movie is like that. I don't know what is going on with her pants.

Yeah, Buddy Holly and I assume that if Joss Whedon and J.K. Rowling could be bothered to give a shit about a Disney Channel movie they'd be outraged at the blatant plagiarizing of their work.

Ryan Dean is SUPER sensitive, Christina! He's incredibly attractive and a poet and sings with a voice of gold! So, of course, he's super insecure about asking out the girl who hangs out with the two nerds. T...Oh man, it's a MUSICAL! That's awesome.

There are a lot of blazers and strange clothes on Pretty Little Liars. I'm always like 'do kids these days really dress like that?' So old now.

Ew. On again-off again relationships are stupid.

Ghostbusters. This took a turn.

She's not 16? Also, I'm so glad you guys talked to each other in valley girl voices. BAHAHA, presentashion. NICE.

WHAT? She fell down the freaking stairs and needs a neck brace now. This CANNOT be real.

Do fifteen year olds know how to use fuse boxes and cut the power? Also, this shiz wouldn't happen if the parents TOLD the kid what they were doing. Wow. Those monsters are intense. I'm quivering, you better believe it.

You know, I'm pretty sure people are less afraid on Halloween. I mean, everyone's hopped up on sugar and/or booze. I don't think they're worrying about monsters. HER FEAR MONSTER. Mine would be a giant cockroach or bee or something.

Holy crap. With this close up, I can see just how much she looks like Lizzie Maguire. Weird. Wow, they're specifically targeted to the three kids. That's convenience. Also, fear monsters are apparently matched by gender? That's a little weird.

Wait. Hold the phone. If she didn't know fear before, wouldn't she have just confessed to whatshisface because she wouldn't have any fear of rejection. I call bullshit on this. She knew fear!

I want a snickerdoodle.

What is up with those pants? Is that a costume or is that what she wears all the time?

So the monsters are boggarts?

UGHHHHH... barfs everywhere that he just asked her out because it scared him most. GET SOME REAL FEARS, PEOPLE.

Wait, she and Myra are friends now?

TIGHTS ARE NOT PANTS.

It was 2 hours? ...You know what they say about men with big hair...

Yeah, me neither.

:( This is one of those movies where it sucks to be a woman. Men can come back when they please without consequences. Howard Keel gets to have a daughter and wife that love him anyway, and he got to miss out on the whole screaming diapers thing. And yes, the chain of command in this river town is rather strange.

Hahaha, Bless Yore Beautiful Hide! I also realized that I have yet to see a Howard Keel film where his hair is anything but ridiculous. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Kiss Me Kate, Annie Get Your Gun, and now Show Boat. I mean, he's got great thick hair but it's always so...big.

No, there's really no woman not left behind at some point. I wish so much that they had gone further into Julie's story. I read too that her part in the 1936 version is even smaller. :( Steenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09254893646539431640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7992599607086278068.post-54402530685633762212012-10-01T10:23:23.922-05:002012-10-01T10:23:23.922-05:00Wow, seems like you know a fair amount about this ...Wow, seems like you know a fair amount about this movie going in. :-p

So glad you include the important details, like what you're drinking. Good choice, btw.

That's a very interesting chain of information they have in that town. The whores pass the info to the fancy folk? I suppose that only makes sense, as the fancy folk are probably their clientele.

Osgood! I totally watched Some Like It Hot after I made that GIF review.

THOSE COSTUMES. MY EYES.

I can't look at Howard Keel and not think "BLESS YORE BEAUTIFUL HIDE"

Bahahahaha, they ARE singing at each other so hard. Also, I hate every single Spamalot song with the Lady of the Lake in it. She's awful.

Oooh, I didn't know anything about Ava Gardner. She sounds fascinating.

Well, that's a clever use of vampirism. DRAMA! WHY DID THEY LEAVE? I mean, I could see getting tired of that, but why leave in a town that tried to arrest you?!?!?!

Oh, that's why they left, so Howard Keel could have a part. All becomes clear.

BAHAHAHA. Love that use of pictures. Rich people DO wear white. Silly rich people.

Wait, wait, wait...is there a woman who won't be abandoned in this movie? WHY DON'T THEY EXPLAIN ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS WITH JULIE?

SHE'S PREGNANT???? WHY?
